Celebrate National Chocolate Mousse Day with A Guilt-Free Mousse

Mark Thompson READ TIME: 2 MIN.

NEW YORK, NY - Chocolate mousse is often a decadent, luxurious treat saved for those rare occasions where calorie counting has an off-day. This year, indulge the craving - guilt-free - on National Chocolate Mousse Day (April 3rd) with a delectable recipe from the premiere tofu brand, House Foods America (www.house-foods.com), tofu specialists since 1983.

While traditional mousse and pudding recipes often require large amounts of whipping cream and butter (ingredients heavy in calories and high in fat content), House Foods America provides a healthier alternative for you to celebrate National Chocolate Mousse Day, a recipe with full-on decadent flavor (and extra protein!) without the empty calories.

House Food's Soft (Silken) Tofu - a unique, flavorless ingredient that can truly transform itself into any flavor or texture - delivers a smooth texture that, when blended with semi-sweet chocolate, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and cardamom, creates a luscious dessert that tastes just as decadent as the traditional version.

Add your own personal twist to this recipe by considering some of the suggestions below:

Top the pudding with toasted slivered almonds or other nuts, coconut shavings, or cocoa powder

Replace the 1 tsp. ground cardamom with 1/2 tsp. chili powder for a spicy Mexican Chocolate Mousse

Add a little agave nectar for an even sweeter pudding

This quick and easy recipe is ideal for satisfying any sweet tooth.

House Foods Chocolate Mousse

Serves 4-6
Prep Time: 15 min

Ingredients:

1 package 14 oz. House Foods Soft Tofu

? cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup of milk (can substitute coconut milk)

1/2 tbsp. vanilla

1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

1 tsp. ground cardamom (optional)

Directions:

Open the tofu package and strain water.
Remove House Foods Soft Tofu from package and blend in blender until smooth.
With the stove on low or simmer, melt the chocolate-chips and milk in a pot stirring until smooth.
Add in House Foods Soft Tofu mixture and stir until it is blended evenly with the chocolate.
Stir in vanilla, cinnamon (and cardamom - optional).
Quickly remove from heat, cool and set in fridge until becomes thick like a mousse.
(Prefer a pudding to a mousse? If so, serve immediately after it has had a chance to cool out of the fridge.)
